Greetings, Friends of Funny! This is her sister Mel, posting on her behalf to give you an update on what's going on with her husband. Both she and my brother-in-law are exhausted and ready for this to be over, so she has not had time to post, but she told me that so many of you have been praying for them, so I wanted to give you an update.
First off all, your prayers are working, so keep them coming. Here is a brief summary of what has happened so far since she last posted.
After a couple of days of not really getting anywhere, and while he was getting worse, experiencing heart rate issues and further symptoms, the small-town hospital he was admitted to ended up moving him to a hospital in the big city where they could be better equipped to handle his situation. After going through a week of full body pain, very high fever, severe headaches, elevated liver enzymes, erratic heartbeat, and several other symptoms (and not receiving a whole lot of help from the doctors), he was finally transferred to the new hospital.
Once there he was diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, which is a very uncommon tick-borne illness. As many of you probably know, Mr. Funny enjoys his guns, and while out shooting last weekend with our other two sisters and the other brother-in-law, Mr. Funny apparently came into contact with an infected tick. Many times this illness goes undetected and there are no problems, but Mr. Funny was not so lucky. He got one off the worst cases, and we are lucky he is still here and doing so well.
Turns out that if his original doctors had followed the advice of the physician's assistant who originally saw him and sent him to the ER for fluids and antibiotics, he would never have gotten so sick. But, the three doctors they were dealing with were not very keen on taking advice or input from anyone, so Mr. Funny ended up suffering for several days with no diagnosis, very little pain management, and no real help, except for some wonderful nurses. Thank goodness the new hospital got on top of things and the Infectious Disease specialist visited them on Friday to give the official diagnosis and get him started on the strong antibiotics to get him healing.
He is still very weak, but his platelets are up, his fever is down, his heart rate is back in the normal range, and now he needs to get his antibiotics and a lot of rest, and hopefully he is on the mend.
Funny should be back to give a much more detailed update, but don't count on too much as she now has a restaurant to run on her own, along with two boys, four dogs, and a 4000 square foot house just waiting to be cleaned and assessed for the refinancing. Oh, and if you recall, I believe she may still have that body in her master bathroom, just waiting to be discovered. I bet that sucker is smelling pretty potent by now.
I'm sure if you live in her area, she'd be happy to take your housekeeper for a day or two (ha! I'm a funny kid too), but if not, go ahead and just keep the prayers flowing!
